'Happy Patel': Aamir Khan Turns Producer for Vir Das-Starrer Spy Comedy, Drops Fun Announcement
Directed by Das along with Kavi Shastri, the film will release in theatres on January 16, 2026.
Aamir Khan Productions has announced their latest offering, a comic spy thriller starring Vir Das. Titled Happy Patel - Khatarnak Jasoos, the film will release in theatres on January 16, 2026. It is directed by Das along with Kavi Shastri.
Aamir Khan and Vir Das announced the film with a funny promo. In the video, Khan parodies himself as a grumpy producer disappointed with the film’s preview. Where is the action? romance? Item song? he demands. As Das nervously defends his vision, an enraged Khan pounces on him when told that his 2022 release, Laal Singh Chaddha, was also a “flop.”
Just then, the focus audience exits the screening and declares the film amazing.
Vir Das, an internationally renowned standup comedian, has appeared in several Hindi films like Delhi Belly, Go Goa Gone and Badmaash Company. He co-created and starred in the Netflix series Hasmukh, about a comedian from a small-town who becomes a serial killer. Das also made his US television debut with Whiskey Cavalier, another spy comedy.
Happy Patel marks his second collaboration with Aamir Khan Productions after Delhi Belly. The goofy and lighthearted title signals a shift of gears for Khan, after producing and starring in the inspirational sports drama Sitaare Zameen Par. The film, a remake of the Spanish Champions, grossed around ₹266 crore worldwide and later adopted a pay-per-view digital distribution strategy.
Recently, Aamir Khan became the first-ever actor to receive the RK Laxman Award for Excellence. Instituted by the family of the legendary cartoonist, the honour celebrates artistic integrity, cultural impact, and the legacy of the creator of the iconic “Common Man”. The ceremony, held at MCA Cricket Stadium in Pune, unfolded as a grand tribute blending music, art, and nostalgia.
Boman Irani presented the award to Aamir Khan, marking a moment that brought together two artists admired for their versatility.
