'How To Train Your Dragon', 'Ballerina' and 'Materialists' Box-Office: Hollywood Titles Deliver ₹20 Crore Weekend

It was a good weekend for the three Hollywood titles at the Indian box office, as How to Train Your Dragon, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, and Materialists collectively totalled over ₹20 crore nett. The movies found their target audience, especially filmmaker Celine Song's Materialists, which had an increase in showcasing after a limited start.

The three films will have the week to put in more numbers before the showcasing shifts to the big releases next Friday: Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par and Sekhar Kammula's Kuberaa, starring Dhanush, Nagarjuna, Rashmika Mandanna, Jim Sarbh and Dalip Tahil.

Leading the box office race was How to Train Your Dragon. The fantasy adventure film opened at ₹2.15 crore on Friday and by Sunday, doubled its collection to ₹4.82 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.

The growth in collections for the live-action movie, starring Mason Thames and Nico Parker, indicates acceptance as the film has appealed to family audiences. The weekend box office of How to Train Your Dragon stands at ₹11.36 crore.

Led by Ana de Armas, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina netted ₹1.6 crore on Friday and registered a growth of 68 percent on Saturday, where it clocked ₹2.7 crore. The film, however, dipped slightly on Sunday when it netted ₹2.34 crore. The three-day total of the film is ₹6.64 crore.

It is the fifth instalment in the John Wick franchise, set between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019) and Chapter 4 (2023). The movie also features Keanu Reeves.

Song's New York City-set love triangle, Materialists, started slow at the Indian box office, with an estimated ₹60 lakhs opening. The much-anticipated title, however, showed a massive growth of over 118 percent on day two as it netted ₹1.31 crore.

The film, headlined by Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, and Pedro Pascal, maintained the Saturday hold on Sunday as it netted an estimated ₹1.30 crore, taking its weekend total to ₹3.31 crore.

According to a report in Pinkvilla, Materialists had a limited release on Friday, with the showcasing increasing over the weekend due to a higher demand.
