The makers of the Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer 2 have announced its release date by unveiling a promo. The much-anticipated sequel to 2023’s Jailer is directed by Nelson and stars Rajinikanth in the lead role.

Jailer 2 has been in production for over a year and will release on October 15 this year. Its release coincides with the Dussehra holidays, a strategic move intended to give the sequel a grand opening across both domestic and international markets.

The 55-second promo gives brief but gripping glimpses into the film. Anticipation builds as Rajinikanth's arrival unfolds in a shadow before he steps onto the road, with Anirudh Ravichander's theme song driving the moment forward. The fast cuts and close-ups of faces gives the promo a charged, cinematic feel.

Jailer, Rajinikanth's first collaboration with Nelson, was released in August 2023. It follows the life of a retired jailer, Muthuvel Pandian, who tries to find his missing son and ends up crossing paths with an eccentric idol smuggler, Varman.

The action-comedy became a blockbuster and the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2023. The sequel appears to be a continuation of Pandian’s storyline. The film also featured memorable cameos from Mohanlal and Shivarajkumar.
