Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, 'Jailer 2' is gearing up to release later this year.
Actor Vijay Sethupathi had set up a strict no-cameo rule for himself, but the actor tweaked it for the upcoming Jailer 2, where he features in a guest appearance. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the highly anticipated film is headlined by Superstar Rajinikanth and is set for a release this year.
Jailer 2 is the sequel to the 2023 blockbuster, which also featured actors like Ramya Krishnan, Vinayakan, Tamannaah Bhatia, Vasanth Ravi and Yogi Babu, with Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar appearing in much-hyped cameos as well.
In an interview with THR India, when asked about his decision to say no to cameos, Sethupathi said he still stands by it, but Jailer 2 was a no-brainer as he loves Rajinikanth. Sethupathi had earlier acted with Rajinikanth in Petta (2019).
"I have done a cameo in Jailer 2 because I love Rajinikanth sir. To be with him, I get to learn a lot. The superstars survived in this industry for so many decades. There is so much to learn," the actor added.
Jailer followed the life of a retired jailer Muthuvel Pandian, who tries to find his missing son and ends up crossing paths with an eccentric idol smuggler, Varman. The action-comedy became a blockbuster and the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2023. The sequel seems to be a continuation of the storyline from the first part.
Sethupathi said he decided to turn down friendly appearances in films, and especially antagonist parts, as he was not getting exciting roles. Admitting that he enjoys villain roles, the actor said, "The filmmakers are bringing me regular, typical villain roles, which I don’t want to do."
Over the last few years, Sethupathi has successfully transitioned to pan-Indian projects, with roles in films like Shah Rukh Khan's actioner Jawan, Sriram Raghavan's romantic-thriller Merry Christmas and filmmaker duo Raj and DK's Prime Video series Farzi, which added to the acclaim he had earned with titles Super Deluxe, '96 and Master.
Next, he will be seen in Gandhi Talks, co-starring Aditi Rao Hydari and Siddarth Jadhav. The film is set to release on January 30.
