Calling rumours linking the leak of superstar Vijay’s much-awaited Jana Nayagan to a Hyderabad-based facility “baseless”, the Southern India Film Editors Association denied naming any “specific post-production” unit in connection with the movie, stating that several individuals and agencies were involved in the big scale actioner.
Clips, including the film's title credits, action scenes, introduction sequence as well as the climax, started appearing on social media on Thursday evening and and by Friday, HD prints of the full film were available on pirated sites.
In a statement shared on X, Gopikrishna, President, Southern India Film Editors Association, said, “Southern India film editors association is strongly clarifying that no specific post facilities have been mentioned in our press meet regarding the leak. Numerous persons and facilities were involved and investigations are ongoing to find the culprits. So Please do not believe baseless rumors!”
Reports have confirmed that over 300 links to the film have so far been removed from websites. The Cyber Crime Department has also arrested six people for illegal circulation of the film.
Previously, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) also denied any role in the leak of the film, dismissing growing social media claims that the movie surfaced online after being stuck in censorship limbo for three months.
The board took to X and stated that reports claiming that the Tamil actioner was leaked from the CBFC are "baseless and misleading."
"Jana Nayagan was handed over to the applicant in Mumbai on 17 March with due acknowledgement, and has remained with them since," the statement read.
Jana Nayagan became embroiled in a legal dispute after the CBFC delayed issuing a certificate, with the film missing its Pongal release date. The film also features Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju and Priyamani, and continues to be among the most anticipated releases of 2026
