The film is said to have collected a total of ₹23.75 crore after three days of its release.
On Monday, actor Vishnu Manchu posted on X about his film Kannappa falling victim to piracy. He wrote, “#Kannappa is under attack from piracy. Over 30,000 illegal links have already been taken down. This is heartbreaking. Piracy is theft — plain and simple. We don't teach our children to steal. Watching pirated content is no different. Please don't encourage it. Support cinema the right way. Har Har Mahadev. (sic)”
The film, which was released on Friday, is said to have collected a total of ₹23.75 crore after three days of its release. Reports suggest that the mythological film saw a 23 per cent drop in collection on Saturday, earning just over ₹7 crore. It collected around the same amount (₹7.25 crore) on Sunday too, as reported by Sacnilk.
Kannappa is directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh. It has been produced by AVA Entertainment and 24 Frames Factory. In a press meet held after the release of the film, Vishnu Manchu explained why he could not find a Telugu director for his film. He said, “My last few films didn’t perform well. Mukesh Kumar Singh brilliantly handled a show based on an Indian epic (Mahabharata on Star Plus). Despite Kannappa being his first feature as director, I entrusted him with the responsibility. I want to bring such talent to the forefront.”
The cast includes Prabhas, Mohanlal, Akshay Kumar and Sarath Kumar. Apart from producing, Vishnu Manchu is also the film’s writer and lead actor. In an earlier interview with THR India, Vishnu Manchu spoke about the challenges he faced during production, especially with VFX. He said, “When I sat down in the editing room, I realised ‘Wow, did I pull this off?’ It hit me hard. The only challenge I faced was from the VFX department. We lack proper VFX producers and supervisors in India. Out of 100, there are probably 10 who are good. I felt so embarrassed by the workflow of the VFX. I am a Pro-Chancellor at the Mohan Babu University, so I've sat down with my team, and we are now starting an Undergraduate VFX programme, aiming to churn out some of the finest supervisors from India.”
