Kapil Sharma has spoken for the first time about the series of shootings that targeted his cafe in Surrey, Canada — incidents that made headlines through July, August and most recently in October this year. The comedian, who had maintained silence on the topic until now, addressed the matter during the trailer launch of his film Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2, calling the events “unexpected” but also insisting that he has never felt unsafe in India.

Recalling the October attack, Sharma said the shootings in Vancouver were part of a larger issue already troubling the local community. “This incident took place in Canada, in Vancouver, and I think there were three firings there. Maybe the rules there don’t give the police enough power to control such things. But after our case, it went to the federal level and it was even discussed in the Parliament of Canada,” he said.

He added that he received calls from several people familiar with the ongoing situation in the area. “A lot was already happening there. But because the firing happened at our cafe, it became big news,” he added. Despite the incidents, the comedian remained optimistic. “After the firing, our cafe actually got an even bigger opening. So I believe God is with us,” he said.

Sharma emphasised that none of this has made him fearful for his own safety. “I never feel unsafe in Mumbai or in my own country. Our Mumbai police are like that, they make you feel safe,” he said. He clarified that he has not increased his personal security in India.

The cafe, opened by Kapil and his team on July 4 in Surrey, British Columbia, has been targeted three times since its launch. The first attack took place on July 10, followed by another on August 7, when shots were fired early in the morning, damaging the windows and exterior of the building. No injuries were reported in either incident. On October 16, shots were fired again around 3:45 a.m. while staff members were inside, though they escaped unharmed.

The Surrey Police Service (SPS) continues to investigate all three shootings. For now, Kapil remains focused on his work. “We don’t always understand the story behind what God does. But I believe he’s with us,” he said.

Directed by Anukalp Goswami, Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 is produced by Ratan Jain, Ganesh Jain, and Abbas-Mustan under Venus Worldwide Entertainment in association with Abbas Mustan Film Production. The film will be released on December 12.
