The title of Suriya’s upcoming film with director RJ Balaji has been announced as 'Karuppu'

The title of Suriya’s upcoming film with director RJ Balaji has been announced as Karuppu. The news was announced on the occasion of Balaji’s 40th birthday, and a first look poster was released by the makers. The social media post of the production house read: “With pride and Excitement, we present the title of #Suriya45: ‘KARUPPU’. A name that embodies the soul of our story, shaped by heart, spirit, and purpose (sic).”

RJ Balaji has previously directed hits like Mookuthi Amman and Veetla Visesham. In what seems to be a mass actioner, Karuppu also stars Trisha as the female lead, marking a reunion with Suriya after almost two decades. The rest of the cast includes Swasika, Indrans, Sshivada, Anagha Maya Ravi, Yogi Babu, Natty, and Supreeth Reddy among others. The film is being produced by SR Prakash Babu and SR Prabhu under the Dream Warrior Pictures banner.

The music of the film is composed by Sai Abhyankkar of Katchi Sera and Aasa Kooda fame, while Anbariv and Vikram Mor are the action choreographers. Reportedly, Karuppu is currently in its final leg of shooting, and is scheduled to release on a festive occasion soon, such as Deepavali 2025.

Meanwhile, production has officially begun on Suriya 46, the much-anticipated collaboration between actor Suriya and Lucky Bhaskar director Venky Atluri. The film, backed by Naga Vamsi’s Sithara Entertainments in association with Fortune Four Cinemas, went on floors on June 9 following a formal launch with a muhurat pooja on May 19. Actor Mamitha Baiju stars alongside Suriya in the film. Cinematographer Nimish Ravi and editor Navin Nooli have also been roped in, with the rest of the cast and crew yet to be announced. The project follows a busy slate for actor Suriya, who was last seen in Karthik Subbaraj’s Retro, which released to mixed reviews.
