The Hollywood Reporter India's monthly column unravels the behind-the-scenes madness of the big Bollywood machinery.
It was a strange week for the Indian film industry, with fallouts, legal notices, and speculations. It started with Akshay Kumar suing Paresh Rawal after he exited Hera Pheri 3—leaving the team in chaos—followed by Deepika Padukone opting out of Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit. And the latest? Diljit Dosanjh is ending his decade-long association with his manager.
THR India has learnt from multiple sources that Dosanjh has called it quits (for now?) with his old friend and manager Sonali Singh, the powerhouse behind the actor-pop star's meteoric global rise.
Singh was such a pioneer in shaping and reshaping Dosanjh's career that she was dubbed the Global Manager of the Year, according to music publication Billboard’s Women in Music 2024 list.
"It is a monumental shake-up for anyone in the business who has followed Diljit's work," a top industry source shared. "No one saw this coming, but the duo has hit a rough patch professionally. Sonali isn't following him on Instagram anymore and is not managing his work as well," the source added.
Sources also hinted that dates of the actor-musician have gone for a toss and there seems to be a lot of back and forth regarding the schedules of the films he has signed.
The abrupt parting has naturally triggered whispers in the industry, but THR India couldn't independently verify the exact reason for the split. There was no response from Dosanjh or Singh.
Singh’s journey with Dosanjh started over a decade ago, when she was a marketing executive working on a multi-artist album called Bhangra Paa Mittra (2013), headlined by Dosanjh.
Dosanjh has been extremely vocal about the role Singh has played in his growth. Dosanjh just recently made heads turn at the Met Gala and has multiple films lined up to go on floors soon.
