The Indian box-office saw two big releases this Friday, including actor Pradeep Ranganathan's Tamil romantic comedy Love Insurance Kompany (LIK) and Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur's Telugu-Hindi romantic actioner Dacoit.
The box-office trajectory of both films over the first weekend was similar, as they collected over ₹30 crore globally in three days, with Love Insurance Kompany grossing ₹34.59 crore and Dacoit punching in a solid ₹ 34.77 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.
Written and directed by Vignesh Shivan, Love Insurance Kompany debuted in India with an estimated ₹7.05 crore on Friday and remained consistent without any growth the next days, netting ₹7.95 crore and ₹7.70 crore on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. The film also stars SJ Suryah and Krithi Shetty.
Ranganathan would ideally hope to hit a hatrick of ₹100 crore global grossers after Dragon (₹151 crore) and Dude (₹114 crore) but the current pace of Love Insurance Kompany indicates that the film might miss out on the milestone, unless it punches above its weight in the coming days.
Meanwhile, Dacoit, backed by Supriya Yarlagadda under Annapurna Studios and directed by Shaneil Deo, saw a similar India debut with Friday bringing in approximately ₹6.55 crore in Telugu and Hindi, reported Sacnilk.
The film, also starring Anurag Kashyap, Atul Kulkarni and Zayn Marie Khan, remained stable with Saturday and Sunday recording ₹6.85 crore and ₹6.40 crore, respectively.
The film has become the biggest opener of Sesh's career, who will be next seen in G2, a sequel to his hit 2018 film Goodachari.
In Hindi, Dacoit will enjoy a clear run this week as the only other film playing is Ranveer Singh-led Dhurandhar: The Revenge, which is at the last leg of its box-office run.
The new Hindi film gearing up for a release this Friday will be Akshay Kumar's Bhooth Bangla. The horror-comedy, directed by Priyadarshan, will open with select paid previews on Thursday before a global roll out on April 17.
