According to several reports, Megastar Mammootty is in talks to collaborate with master director Adoor Gopalakrishnan on a film, which is expected to be produced by the former under his banner, Mammootty Kampany. The two had last collaborated on Vidheyan (The Servile) all the way back in 1993. Vidheyan had won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Malayalam and also the Best Actor Award for Mammootty. Adoor’s last feature film release was Dileep-Kavya Madhavan’s Pinneyum (Once Again) in 2016.

Mammootty has just completed his shoot for the Mahesh Narayanan-Mohanlal film titled Patriot (the film will also co-star Fahadh Faasil and Nayanthara), and is also said to have completed a cameo in the WWE-based wrestling movie Chatha Pacha. His next release is Kalamkaval, expected to be released next week on November 27. In the film, he plays a serial killer, based on a fictionalised account of Cynamide Mohan, a notorious criminal.

As for Adoor, he was most recently in the news for having made several controversial remarks during the closing ceremony of Kerala’s film conclave in Thiruvananthapuram in August. He is reported to have spoken about the State Government’s initiative to promote SC/ST and women filmmakers and called for better training before being allotted funds.

According to a report in The Hindu, the director said, “The government is providing ₹1.5 crore for filmmakers from the SC/ST communities to make films. I told the Chief Minister the government is paving the way for corruption, but nothing changed. The intent is good, but they should be given at least three months of intensive training to make films. All the filmmakers who have made films under this project have complaints about it. They should be made aware that these are public funds. The amount should be reduced to ₹50 lakh. This money is not meant to make commercial films.”
