Mirzapur: The Movie is pacing toward a historic box-office debut this Friday, with pre-sales momentum significantly outperforming early industry projections.

The feature marks the first big-screen adaptation for the landmark Mirzapur franchise, which originally premiered on Prime Video in 2018. Over its multi-season run, the crime syndicate drama evolved into one of Indian streaming’s most influential IPs, defined by its gritty regional politics and massive pop-culture footprint.

That digital equity is now translating directly into theatrical ticket sales. Driven by strong fanbase mobilisation across core markets, opening-day trade projections place the film's net domestic collections between ₹25 crore and ₹30 crore.

According to trade platform Box Office India, advance bookings for Friday are already pacing ahead of Awarapan 2, another recent franchise title that leveraged brand familiarity into a ₹200 crore global run.

Boosted by Janmashtami holiday on Friday, the trade tracker noted that a ₹30 crore nett opening is well within reach for a film driven entirely by brand equity rather than traditional A-list star power or a hit music album.

Directed by Gurmmeet Singh and written by Puneet Krishna, the film is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under Excel Entertainment, with Kassim Jagmagia and Vishal Ramchandani co-producing.

Mirzapur: The Movie is set right in the middle of episode 6 and episode 7 of Season 1. Across its seasons, the show built a strong following for its violence-driven narrative, ensemble cast, and characters that became widely referenced in popular culture. Subsequent seasons expanded the scale of the conflict while maintaining a focus on revenge, succession, and criminal politics.

Apart from the return of Divyenndu as Munna Bhaiya, a character whose arc in the series drew strong audience attention, several central characters from the series return in the film, including Pankaj Tripathi reprising his role as Kaleen Bhaiya, the mafia leader of Mirzapur and Ali Fazal returning as Guddu Pandit.

Mirzapur: The Movie arrives in theaters in Hindi and Telugu on September 4.
