Days after it was reported that Netflix had "indefinitely deferred" filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane's Black Warrant 2, comes another such development from the streamer's stable: Actor Siddhant Chaturvedi-starrer action-creature film has reportedly been put on the back burner.

According to reports, the project was tentatively titled Ramree and was billed as a two-hero movie set in the pre-Independence era. It was initially helmed by debutant director Neha Sharma, with actor Ajay Devgn reportedly backing the film.

"Work on the film had been going on for over a year. Given the subject and the period setting, it was an expensive project. For an OTT film, this would have set a benchmark in scale and imagination, but budget constraints caught up with it," reported Mid-Day.

"Even though the platform heads were excited about the story, there was too much at stake financially. So, they decided not to move forward with it," the report added.

The publication quoted an insider who shared that titles being put on hold is a common occurrence in the streaming world, where a project is considered officially greenlit only when it goes on floors.

“The film was an idea in development that did not move forward, a natural part of the creative process where multiple concepts are explored. While some take shape, some don’t," the source was quoted as saying.

Sharma had previously written films like The Zoya Factor (2019) and the comedy Tere Bin Laden: Dead or Alive (2016). There were reports that the film was also supposed to feature Mohit Raina alongside Chaturvedi.

Meanwhile, Chaturvedi was seen earlier this year in Shazia Iqbal's Dhadak 2. Backed by Karan Johar, the film was a a remake of the Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal (2018) and co-starred Triptii Dimri. The movie opened to critical acclaim when it hit cinemas in August.
