Pa. Ranjith on Vikram’s 'Thangalaan': “His Performance Wasn’t Recognised Enough”

At the recently concluded audio launch of Mari Selvaraj’s upcoming film Bison, starring Dhruv Vikram, director Pa. Ranjith spoke about his experience working with Vikram on Thangalaan. Ranjith praised Vikram’s performance, stating it did not receive the recognition it deserved.

He said, “As a director, I may have made mistakes with Thangalaan. I may also have gone wrong in communicating what I intended to with my audience.” He added, “There was no flaw in Vikram’s performance. He acted brilliantly, and one cannot fault anything in the way he performed.” Despite critical acclaim, the film, which released last August, underperformed at the box office.

Meanwhile, the first look teaser of Ranjith’s next project, Vettuvan, was unveiled on actor Attakathi Dinesh’s birthday. The glimpse introduces viewers to the world of Vettuvan, showcasing massive crowds, martial arts sequences, and Dinesh in striking poses amid visually arresting set pieces. The film, produced by Neelam Productions, marks Ranjith’s third collaboration with Dinesh, following their debut in the romantic film Attakathi.

In a somber note, Ranjith and three members of his production team were booked in July following the tragic death of stuntman Mohan Raj during a car-flip stunt for Vettuvan. Mohan was critically injured during filming on July 13 and later succumbed to his injuries. Ranjith has expressed his condolences on X (formerly Twitter).

Mari Selvaraj’s Bison follows a young man’s journey from violence to victory, with Dhruv Vikram and Anupama Parameswaran in lead roles.
