Here's how this week's big releases, 'Lokah: Chapter 1 - Chandra', 'Param Sundari', 'Vash Level 2' and 'Hridayapoorvam' fared at the box-office.
At the weekend box-office, it was a battle between Malayalam cinema's first superhero Lokah: Chapter 1 - Chandra, a man with a heart transplant in Hridayapoorvam (headlined by Mohanlal), the Gujarati horror Vash: Level 2 and the cross-cultural romantic comedy Param Sundari, starring Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor. Who won?
Directed by Dominic Arun and produced by Dulquer Salmaan Lokah: Chapter 1 - Chandra opened to rave reviews on Thursday and recorded a day-one all-India net of ₹2.7 crore. The film, co-starring Naslen, then almost doubled its collection with a ₹4 crore Friday and recorded a 90 percent jump on Saturday collecting ₹7.6 crore on Saturday.
It had the best day on Sunday when it netted ₹10 crore, taking its four day domestic total to over ₹24 core, reported industry tracker Sacnilk. The worldwide gross of Lokah: Chapter 1 - Chandra stands at over ₹65 crore.
Param Sundari, the Dinesh Vijan-backed rom-com directed by Tushar Jalota, had a steady weekend where it recorded decent collections, opening with ₹7.25 crore on Friday, followed by ₹9.25 crore and ₹10.25 crore on Saturday and Sunday, respectivey. The film, which didn't record major jump on the weekend, netted around ₹27 crore in total, with its global gross projected to be a little over ₹42 crore, the industry tracker reported. All eyes will be on how the film holds on Monday to gauge how its lifetime run would look like.
Director Sathyan Anthikad's comedy-drama Hridayapoorvam also had a steady extended weekend, with collections ranging between ₹2-3 crore on each of the four days. The film, also starring Malavika Mohanan, Sangita Madhavan Nair, and Sangeeth Prathap, has netted over ₹12 crore so far.
The Gujarati supernatural-horror Vash: Level 2 also grew steadily from word of mouth, ending its five-day extended weekend with collections over ₹7 crore.
Both, Lokah: Chapter 1 - Chandra and Hridayapoorvam will record better numbers on account of the Onam holidays, with the former leading the box-office. In Hindi, Param Sundari will face two new releases this week, Tiger Shroff-led Baaghi 4 and Vivek Agnihotri's The Bengal Files.
