Actor Riteish Deshmukh has zeroed in on his next directorial: a multi-lingual historical action drama titled Raja Shivaji. Jio Studios and Mumbai Film Company have announced that the magnum opus will release globally on May 1 next year in Marathi, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.
Riteish will also essay the titular role of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the film, which features an ensemble led by Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Genelia Deshmukh, Mahesh Manjrekar and Bhagyashree among others.
Set in a time when empires clashed and rebellions ignited, Raja Shivaji chronicles the extraordinary journey of a young Shivaji who defied the odds, rebelled against formidable powers to become the revered Raja Shivaji.
Jyoti Deshpande, President – Jio Studios (Media & Content Business – RIL) said the vision of the film could only be brought to life by someone like Deshmukh, who holds the story close to his heart. The film also stars Sachin Khedekar, Fardeen Khan Jitendra Joshi and Amole Gupte.

Backed by an ensemble of some of the finest talents from across industries, this film is one of the most ambitious ventures we’ve undertaken," Jyoti said.
Riteish added that he is honoured to chronicle the "extraordinary story" of Shivaji Maharaj, being aware that a film on him is a great responsibility. He said, "Releasing the film on Maharashtra Day feels especially meaningful, and with a cast we could only dream of, we feel truly fortunate."
Genelia, producer, Mumbai Film Company, added that mounting Raja Shivaji has been a journey "shaped by years of thought, research, and reverence."
The film brings together an illustrious creative team, including music maestros Ajay–Atul and legendary cinematographer Santosh Sivan, who makes his Marathi cinema debut. Raja Shivaji is currently in production across Mumbai and Wai in Maharashtra.
