'King' boasts a star-studded ensemble, led by Shah Rukh Khan as a vengeful assassin, alongside Deepika Padukone, Suhana Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, and Jackie Shroff.
Superstar Shah Rukh Khan's highly anticipated film King has finally begun filming, at least six months after undergoing several changes and revisions. Directed by Siddharth Anand, who also helmed Shah Rukh's blockbuster Pathaan (2023), the action spectacle kicked off on Thursday at Mumbai's Mehboob Studios.
King boasts a star-studded ensemble, led by Shah Rukh as a vengeful assassin, alongside Deepika Padukone, Suhana Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, and Jackie Shroff. The cast is further strengthened by Arshad Warsi, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Abhay Varma, with a special appearance by Rani Mukerji.
While it is unclear who from the actors shot today, a Mid-Day report claimed it was day one for Suhana Khan, daughter of the superstar, as well as Abhay Varma. King will be Deepika's first film after she delivered a baby in 2024. She is expected to shoot for 10 days in October.
The movie will also be Shah Rukh's first film since his historic comeback in 2023 with movies like Pathaan, Jawan, and Dunki. King is expected to release in the second quarter of 2026, with the makers keen to lock a festival date, which would most likely be the Gandhi Jayanti weekend of October 2.
Initially, King was supposed to be helmed by Kahaani (2012) director Sujoy Ghosh. Siddharth later stepped in as the director and the film underwent script revisions as well as some production delays. As of now, the makers are looking to wrap filming by the end of 2025. King would mark the big-screen debut of Suhana, who was seen in Zoya Akhtar's Netflix film The Archies (2023).
