Superstar Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par has pulled off the impossible at the box office, recording an almost 200% jump in collections from Friday to Sunday. After a muted opening day, the comedy drama experienced a surge at the box office on Saturday, recording the strongest second day in decades. But on Sunday, the film went on an overdrive with a rare box office trend, especially for films of this genre post-pandemic.

After a start of ₹10.70 crore, Sitaare Zameen Par benefited heavily from positive word of mouth, which led to a huge jump on Saturday, where the film netted ₹19.90 crore, almost 86 per cent higher than the opening day.

On Sunday, the film is estimated to have clocked in around ₹28-30 crore, taking its weekend total to a smashing ₹60 crore. The growth of Sitaare Zameen Par is historic, as it's rare for a film to open in double digits and then surge over 200% in the following two days. In terms of global gross, the film is on firm ground with Pinkvilla reporting the worldwide weekend to be around ₹93 crore.

With this, Sitaare Zameen Par has ensured it will be a huge box office success, and all eyes will now be on Monday to see the momentum the film will hold. Trade estimates suggest the RS Prasanna directorial is on track for a healthy, steady week before it sees another spike in collections in its second weekend.

This is a triumphant return for Khan, who struggled at the box office with his earlier films Laal Singh Chadha (2022) and Thugs of Hindostan (2018).
