'Sitaare Zameen Par' Box-Office Collection Day One: Aamir Khan Comedy Aims to Open At Around ₹10 Crore
As of now, Aamir Khan's 'Sitaare Zameen Par' is tracking to open anywhere in the range of ₹8 to 10 crore, depending on how the audience reception plays out.
Trade conversations have already begun regarding Sitaare Zameen Par's box-office collections for day one as the Aamir Khan starrer hits the big screen. The RS Prasanna-directed sports comedy had a wide release on more than 3000 screens in India, but the Friday collections still look middling, depending largely on word of mouth.
In that sense, Sitaare Zameen Par will operate like a 'Saturday film', as trade calls it, where it would hope that after a muted start on Friday, its reception comes into play, leading to a huge jump on day two.
As of now, Sitaare Zameen Par is tracking to open anywhere in the range of ₹8 to 10 crore, depending on how the audience reception plays out. It is, at best, a "fair" opening and not what one would expect from a superstar like Khan.
It remains to be seen if Sitaare Zameen Par will cross the opening of Khan's Laal Singh Chadha, which had clocked ₹11 crore in 2022, his lowest in years. The romantic drama, co-starring Kareena Kapoor, had clashed with Akshay Kumar's Raksha Bandhan in August. The superstar would hope to score big with Sitaare Zameen Par, as his last hit was Dangal in 2015. His 2018 action-adventure drama Thugs of Hindostan had also bombed at the box office.
A spiritual sequel to Khan's 2007 hit Taare Zameen Par, the film also stars Genelia D'Souza. Sitaare Zameen Par features Aamir as a suspended basketball coach who must serve community service by helping a team of players with disabilities prepare for a tournament.
It is the second Hindi film of RS Prasanna after the 2017 comedy Shubh Mangal Saavdhan. Backed by Aamir Khan Productions, the film features 10 debutants, including Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar
