Sony Pictures pulled back the curtain on the next chapter of its Spider-Man saga at CinemaCon 2025, unveiling the official title of Tom Holland’s fourth outing as Peter Parker: Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The film, slated for release on July 31, 2026, promises a reinvention of the beloved character following the seismic events of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Director Destin Daniel Cretton, best known for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, took the stage to describe the upcoming instalment as “a ride that we haven’t really seen before.” Holland, appearing via video message, echoed the sentiment, calling the film “a fresh start.”
The title itself signals a significant shift in Peter Parker’s journey, drawing inspiration from the controversial 2008 Marvel Comics storyline in which Parker’s secret identity is erased from public memory after a reality-altering event. This premise bears a striking resemblance to the conclusion of No Way Home, where Doctor Strange’s spell wiped Peter from the collective consciousness of the world. The new film will once again be written by Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna, the duo behind No Way Home, continuing Sony and Disney’s collaborative efforts to keep Spider-Man firmly within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The studio also provided an eagerly-awaited update on its animated Spider-Verse franchise, confirming that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will hit theaters on June 4, 2027. This third instalment follows the critically-acclaimed Into the Spider-Verse (2018) and Across the Spider-Verse (2023), both of which redefined superhero animation and were celebrated for their groundbreaking visuals and storytelling.
Filmmaker Phil Lord, joined by co-directors Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson, reassured fans that the additional wait for the final Spider-Verse chapter was necessary to deliver a fitting conclusion. “We just could not run it back,” Lord told the CinemaCon audience. “We needed more time to craft something that lives up to what came before.” He promised a “massive finale” that would push the boundaries of the genre.
Attendees were treated to an exclusive first look at Beyond the Spider-Verse, offering glimpses of Miles Morales on the run, pursued by various Spider-People across the multiverse.
With Sony doubling down on both its live-action and animated Spider-Man properties, fans of the web-slinger have much to anticipate in the years ahead.
