The film's title was launched at a grand event in Hyderabad, attented by the cast including Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj.
SS Rajamouli and Mahesh Babu's Globe Trotter is now Varanasi. The title and first look of the Telugu magnum opus were launched at a grand event at Hyderabad's Ramoji Film City on November 15. The event, which was live-streamed on Jio Hotstar for virtual fans, featured the film's ensemble cast, including Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran, along with writer-director SS Rajamouli. Mahesh Babu will play the role of Rudhra in Varanasi.
The visual glimpse from the film features fantastical glimpses of various places and spaces, such as Antarctica, Varanasi, and Kenya, across time periods, including 512 CE, 2027 CE and the Threthayuga, hinting at a possible time travel drama. The teaser ends with Mahesh Babu charging ahead on a ferocious bull, amidst the background of the pilgrimage city of Varanasi. The clip sees the Telugu superstar clad in a blood-soaked shirt with a signature Nandi pendant (which we saw in earlier posters) draped around his neck. One also can't miss the trishool he's holding in his hand, as the camera pans to the front to give us a full view of the frame.
The looks of Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran were released a few days back as part of the film's promotions. Chopra is Mandakini in the poster, draped in a bright yellow saree, standing precariously on the edge of a cliff while firing a gun—the visual subverts the typical portrayal of commercial film heroines, blending classic style with high-octane action.
Prithviraj, on the other hand, is Kumbha, the film's antagonist. In his poster, the actor exudes a creepy doctor-octopus-meets-Professor-X vibe. The actor is seen seated in a nifty wheelchair, manning multiple robotic limbs via a panel, as a troop of soldiers and a solitary media van loom in the far distance.
The film went by Globe Trotter, a working title, which the makers have used wisely as part of its promotional campaigns. Popular YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani and Telugu television presenter Suma Kanakala hosted the event on Saturday, where over 50,000 people were said to attend the event. The film's short visual was unveiled on a massive 130 ft x 100 ft screen in an open-air venue designed to mimic the set of Varanasi. The event also featured the performance of Shruti Haasan singing the theme of Globe Trotter, the first single that was released by the makers earlier in the week.
