The box-office showdown will begin with 'Devil', slated to release on December 12, followed by 'Mark' and '45' on December 25.
The Kannada film industry is bracing itself for an action-packed December, with three big-budget releases vying for audience attention during the Christmas season. After a relatively quiet 2025, save for the runaway success of Su From So, all eyes are now on Devil, headlined by Darshan, Sudeep-led Mark, and the ambitious action-fantasy drama 45, each carrying the weight of star power and high expectations.
The box-office spectacle will begin with Devil, slated to release on December 12. Directed by Prakash Veer, the film has already generated significant buzz because its leading man, Darshan, remains behind bars in the Renukaswamy murder case.
This will mark the second time a Darshan-starrer hits theatres without his presence in promotions, the first being Sarathi (2011), which went on to become a massive success. Shot across Bengaluru, Mysuru, Jaipur, Dubai, and parts of Europe, Devil also features Mahesh Manjrekar, Rachana Rai, and Sharmiela Mandre, with its teaser and the track 'Idre Nemdi Agirbek' already making the rounds.
Next up would be a box-office clash between Sudeep's Mark and 45, in which he is joined by an ensemble including Upendra and Raj B Shetty. Both titles are locked for a December 25 release.
Mark reunites the superstar with director Vijay Kartikeyaa after their 2024 blockbuster Max. Produced under Sudeep’s Kichcha Creations alongside Sathya Jyothi Films, Mark is being positioned as a major holiday entertainer.
Also arriving on Christmas Day is 45, an ambitious action-fantasy drama marking music composer Arjun Janya’s directorial debut. The film was initially set for an August release but was pushed to allow for extensive CG and post-production work, strategically avoiding a showdown with Rajinikanth’s Coolie.
A report in The Hindu quoted Sudeep as saying that the makers of 45 have no reason to worry about the box office face-off. “Their film has three big stars, who are all dear to me. Karnataka has enough theatres to accommodate two or three big movies at the same time. 45 is a special project that can hold its own against any movie. Also, December is the right time to release big projects because of the vacations for schools and colleges. If we miss that month, we will have to wait 4-5 months for the next best release window,” he said.
