There is going to be fireworks at the Indian box office this weekend as filmmaker James Gunn's much-awaited Superman hits the big screen. The first film in the DC Universe (DCU) is having a grand release across India, in as many as 2800 screens, including IMAX.

The new film, the second reboot of the Superman film series, features David Corenswet as Clark Ken/ Superman and also stars Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane) and Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor) among others.

According to a report in Pinkvilla, the film, also releasing in ICE and 4DX formats, is looking at an opening day of around ₹9 crore, which can also touch the double-digit figure as the film is receiving good reviews. It would mean that day one of the film will be around the same as Jurassic World Rebirth, led by Scarlett Johansson.

The DC Studios film will then hope to score big on Saturday and Sunday, taking the three-day total to an estimated ₹40 crore net in India. To put it in context, Jurassic World Rebirth had an opening weekend of ₹39 crore, while Tom Cruise-led Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning also put up a similar number in its first three days (Saturday-Monday).

Superman will lead the Indian box office with no other significant new releases. The two Hindi movies, Rajkummar Rao-led Maalik and Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, are currently tracking at a low level and are unlikely to put up a decent total, with a cumulative opening day of around ₹5 crore.

If Superman performs as expected, it would be yet another Hollywood biggie finding a solid footing at the Indian box office after titles like Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Final Destination: Bloodlines, Brad Pitt-led F1, and Jurassic World: Rebirth.

Superman also stars Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced.
