Srikanth, along with actor Krishna, have been granted bail by the Madras High Court.
Tamil actor Srikanth, who was arrested earlier in June for allegedly procuring cocaine from a drug cartel in Chennai, was granted bail on Tuesday, according to a report in The Hindu. Justice M. Nirmal Kumar granted the bail to actors Srikanth and Krishna (who was also arrested in the drug case), "after taking into consideration that the two actors had been arrested only on the charge of procuring cocaine for personal consumption," as no amount of the contraband had been seized by the police from either of them, according to the report.
The release was ordered on the condition that they execute a bond for ₹10,000 along with two sureties to the satisfaction of a special court for NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act cases. The actors were also instructed to appear before the investigating officer (IO) daily for two weeks and cooperate with the officials for a test identification parade, if necessary.
The actor's blood samples were collected and sent for testing after a detailed interrogation in June, after which his test came back positive for narcotics. He was examined at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital.
Srikanth was called in to be questioned by the cops on suspicion of his links with former AIADMK functionary Prasad, who had been arrested earlier for drug trafficking. It was reported that the cartel includes a Ghanaian national who was recently arrested. Srikanth began his acting journey with the television serial Jannal – Marabu Kavithaigal directed by K. Balachander in 1999, before debuting in Tamil cinema with the 2002 romance-drama Roja Kootam. He is known for his roles in films such as Manasellam, Parthiban Kanavu and Nanban. In 2023, he acted in Telugu with Okariku Okaru. He was last seen in the film Konjam Kadhal Konjam Modhal, which was released earlier this year.
