While 'Thamma' is set to cross ₹100 crore at the box-office, 'Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat' will soon hit the ₹50 crore mark.
The two Diwali releases from the Hindi film industry concluded their first six-day extended weekend on Sunday as the holiday period drew to a close. Maddock Horror Comedy Universe's latest entrant, Thamma, and Milap Zaveri's Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, opened in cinemas on Tuesday, October 21, and have collectively minted over ₹140 crore in India.
Led by Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, Thamma's total so far stands at over ₹90 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. The collections came in after a good start, where the horror comedy netted ₹24 crore, followed by ₹18 crore and ₹13 crore the next two days.
Over the weekend, the film remained stable, minting ₹10 crore on Friday and then clocking ₹13 crore net on Saturday and Sunday. Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, Thamma is likely to cross the ₹100 mark by Tuesday and will surpass the other standalone film from the MHCU, Munjya, which had netted ₹100 crore last year.
Thamma would then hope to continue its hold and aim to surpass the collections of Rajkummar Rao-Shraddha Kapoor starrer Stree, which had netted nearly ₹129 crore in 2018. Thamma also stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Paresh Rawal.
The other release, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, has managed to spring a surprise at the box office despite competing with a bigger film of a franchise and jostling for screens during the Diwali period.
Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat's six-day total stands at ₹41 crore. The film, headlined by Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa, opened at ₹9 crore on Tuesday and managed to put up a good hold over the next five days, minting in the range of ₹6-7 crore consistently.
Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat is now on track to hit the ₹50 crore mark soon and if the hold remains, the film might be looking at a lifetime run of nearly ₹70 crore.
Both the films will have a clear run now at the box-office as the next release is the Yami Gautam, Emraan Hashmi-starrer social drama Haq, on November 7, followed by Ajay Devgn-led comedy De De Pyaar De 2 on November 14.
