Veteran Actor Dharmendra Discharged from Hospital, Will Continue Recovery at Home

The 89-year-old legend had been under observation at Breach Candy hospital in Mumbai for the past two days.

Veteran actor Dharmendra has been discharged from Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital and will continue his recovery at home, according to an official statement released by his family. The 89-year-old legend, one of the most enduring figures in Indian cinema, had been under observation at the hospital for the past two days.

Dharmendra, 89, was hospitalised on November 10 following respiratory issues and reportedly put on ventilator support. A day later, his wife Hema Malini and daughter Esha Deol shared updates about his health, requesting privacy and urging the media to refrain from speculation.

Here is the official statement released by the family -

“Mr. Dharmendra has been discharged from the hospital and will continue his recovery at home. We kindly request the media and the public to refrain from any further speculation and to respect his and the family’s privacy during this time.

We appreciate everyone’s love, prayers, and good wishes for his continued recovery, good health, and long life. Please respect him because he loves you.”

Dharmendra, known for classics such as Sholay and Chupke Chupke, is considered one of the greatest actors of Hindi cinema. His family, including wife and parliamentarian Hema Malini, had earlier clarified that his condition was stable and improving. This was preceded by unverified media reports falsely claiming that the actor had passed away.

Across the world, fans prayed for the legend’s swift recovery. Bollywood stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan and others visited Breach Candy over the last two days to check on Dharmendra’s condition. Meanwhile, the trailer launch of Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar was postponed in view of the actor’s health as well as the recent Red Fort area blast in New Delhi.

Dharmendra's upcoming screen role is in Sriram Raghavan's Ikkis. The film, an emotional war drama starring Agastya Nanda, is slated to release on December 25.
