From heritage-inspired couture to bold maternity dressing, Indian celebrities made a powerful impact on the Met Gala red carpet with custom looks by Balmain, Gaurav Gupta, Manish Malhotra and more.
From archival textiles and high-jewellery statements to bold silhouettes and cultural symbolism, stars like Priyanka Chopra, Kiara Advani, Isha Ambani Piramal, and Natasha Poonawalla turned the red (well, blue) carpet into one of identity and innovation.
Chopra attended the event with her husband, Nick Jonas, and both opted for a retro-inspired look. The actor stunned in a polka-dotted white Balmain skirt suit, styled with a dramatic wide-brimmed hat, gloves and Bvlgari’s show-stopping 241-carat "Magnus Emerald" pendant, which is also the largest faceted stone the house has ever set. Jonas, wearing Bianca Saunders, opted for a sculptural cream blouse with a high neck and scarf detail, paired with high-waisted trousers and cinched by a coordinating belt. Tiffany brooches completed the look.
For mom-to-be Kiara Advani's debut Met Gala, she wore a sculptural Gaurav Gupta creation that tastefully showcased her baby bump. The custom gown, featuring a dramatic breastplate and cascading trail, was conceptualised in the final week leading up to the event, as revealed in a behind-the-scenes video shared by Instagram fashion creator Diet Sabya. Styled by Anaita Shroff Adajania, Advani's look was a nod to the dandyism of the African diaspora.
For her fifth appearance at the Met Gala, Isha Ambani made an unforgettable entrance in a custom black, white and gold ensemble by designer Anamika Khanna. The silhouette featured a structured jacket, embroidered waistcoat and a corset woven with geometric motifs. Over 20,000 hours went into creating the ensemble, which shimmered with semi-precious stones, pearl detailing, and gemstones from the Ambani family’s private collection. Khanna, making her Met Gala debut, described the creation as a conversation between identity and interpretation.
The ever-fashionable Poonawalla made a powerful sartorial statement wearing custom Manish Malhotra, She honoured her Parsi roots while engaging with this year’s menswear-focused theme through a distinctively Indian perspective. Her sculpted fishtail skirt — crafted from two vintage Parsi Gara saris, including one over a century old — stood out as a testament to craftsmanship and cultural continuity. Styled once again by Anaita Shroff Adajania, the ensemble also featured a corset-cummerbund and a vintage French lace bralette edged with pearls. A sharply tailored Gara jacket with exaggerated shoulders and imperial purple lining added structure, while the final flourish came in the form of a sculptural lace cravat by Atelier Biser and a miniature pearl-trimmed Chanel box bag.
2025 also served as the designer's debut at the gala.
Besides them, entrepreneur Mona Patel, who had stolen the show at the 2024 Met Gala returned with yet another striking look in head-to-toe Thom Browne. With craftsmanship, culture and couture in perfect sync, India’s presence at the 2025 Met Gala was impactful, yet innately personal.
