Make-up artists in Bollywood and South Indian cinema reveal must-have products and game-changing hacks for a star-like glow this season.
A week into the new year, the “clean girl” beauty trend continues to dominate the film circles, fuelled by a flurry of celebrity weddings.
“As somebody who’s been in the [Bollywood] beauty industry for so long, we’re back to being inspired by the 80s and 90s,” reveals veteran make-up artist Arti Nayar. Boasting a clientele of the likes of actors Kareena Kapoor Khan and Parineeti Chopra, she explains that in 2025, it’s all about achieving a “skin-like finish”. The era of doll-like, airbrushed perfection is a thing of the past, giving way to a more authentic and effortless aesthetic among the Hindi film actors.
Make-up artist Samantha Jagan, known for her work with celebrities like Andrea Jeremiah, Atlee Kumar and Siddharth among others, admits to a similar shift amongst the South Indian stars. “Celebrities now prioritise enhancing their natural features with lightweight, skin-friendly products,” she says, explaining that the “less is more” approach continues to reign supreme.
However, she’s noticed that “Bollywood celebrities often prefer experimental, statement looks that push boundaries, while South Indian celebrities lean toward timeless aesthetics with an appreciation for cultural authenticity, especially at weddings.” Both industries demand precision and creativity, but in their own unique ways.
As celebrities across the globe opt for non-invasive treatments like hydra facials, radio frequency treatments, lip blush tattoos and semi-permanent brow laminations, these make-up pros still swear by a few classic, go-to products for 2025.

Arti Nayar’s Picks:
Chanel Vitalumière Aqua Foundation: A beautiful formulation offering medium coverage.
Maybelline Colossal Kajal: It’s waterproof, and I swear by it.
An Eyelash Curler: Perfect for a lifted look.
Tom Ford Emotionproof Eyeliner: I never leave the home without this kajal in brown.
YSL Couture Kajal: Easy application and a formula that glides on.
Samantha Jagan’s Picks:
Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Cream and Hollywood Flawless Filter Illuminator: A skincare-makeup hybrid that preps the skin and makes it glow.
NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer: For seamless coverage that doesn’t look cake-y.
M.A.C Prep + Prime Fix+ Setting Spray: A versatile product for hydration, setting and intensifying pigments.
Dyson Airwrap: An all-in-one hair tool for effortless styling.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow products: Brows are transformative, and this range of brow products creates natural, defined arches.
As for some insider tips, Nayar’s go-to trick is dusting powder over lipstick before re-applying for a long-lasting look. On the other hand, Jagan expert advice involves using dry shampoo to revive greasy roots, opting for a hydrating serum, mixing drops of liquid highlighter with moisturiser, and finishing up with a dewy mist. Using multi-purpose products, like tinted moisturisers with SPF, is another efficient way to streamline the routine and declutter the vanity.
Ultimately, both Jagan and Nayar agree that beauty in 2025 is all about authenticity, self-expression and an unapologetic sense of confidence… all of which is rooted in embracing one's unique features and natural skin textures.
