Wunderbar Films released the promo and release date for Dhanush's 55th film on June 18, revealing its title as Om - Chapter 1: Udhiram: The Blood Wood. The Tamil-language film is set for a worldwide theatrical release on October 16, 2026. The title of the film suggests a possible multi-chapter franchise.
The roughly two-and-a-half-minute teaser opens with visuals of mountains, forests, and a temple town, followed by a shift to a confrontation in a rain-soaked jungle. The teaser shows police personnel holding woodcutters and workers at gunpoint when Dhanush comes to their rescue, leading to an action-packed fight sequence backed by the film's strong score.
The film is written and directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, who previously directed Amaran (2024). This project is his first collaboration with Dhanush. The film’s cast includes Mammootty, Sai Pallavi, and Sreeleela. Music for the film is by Sai Abhyankkar, who recently worked on RJ Balaji's Karuppu, and cinematography by Ezhil Arasu, editing by Kalaivanan R and costumes by Kavya Sriram. The film is produced by Wunderbar Films in association with RTake Studios.
Dhanush’s recent projects include Tamil heist action drama Kara (2026), directed by Vignesh Raja, Tere Ishq Mein (2025), the Hindi romantic drama co-starring Kriti Sanon, and Kuberaa (2025) which featured Nagarjuna, Rashmika Mandanna and Jim Sarbh.
Mammootty returns to Tamil cinema with this film following his blockbuster reunion with Mohanlal in Patriot (2026). He is also reported to be a part of Adoor Gopalakrishnan’s ongoing project, titled Padayatra, a socio-political drama also starring Indrans and Grace Antony.
Sai Pallavi, who was last seen alongside Junaid Khan earlier this year in Ek Din, reunites with Periasamy after Amaran (2024), and with Dhanush after Maari 2 (2018), directed by Balaji Mohan. Sreeleela joins the cast fresh after Ustad Bhagat Singh (2026), where she starred alongside Pawan Kalyan and Raashi Khanna.
