Aamir Khan has collaborated with his cousin Mansoor Khan on multiple projects — including both of their debuts, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988). In a recent conversation with The Hollywood Reporter India, Aamir spoke about the trust they've established over their decades-long creative bond.
According to Aamir, he trusts Mansoor’s instincts enough to repeatedly leave him with post-production instructions in case of an emergency. He added that whenever he boards a flight while a film is in its post-production stage, he makes sure the director knows that if anything were to happen to him, Mansoor is the person they should consult. “What if my plane crashes or I die — I don’t want the film to go wrong. So I tell the director that if something happens to me, then take Mansoor’s advice” Aamir said.
He further revealed he sends Mansoor a message before boarding any flight, with specifications of how he wants certain elements to be handled in the film.
Aamir explained that his innate sense of trust comes from years of creative alignment and from knowing Mansoor’s sensibilities closely. “He’s one person I trust — whose instinct I trust,” he said.
Mansoor however, mentioned how his distance from the world of cinema sometimes acts as a hindrance, as he feels unsure about his decisions. “I have lost a certain amount of sensibility because of being away for so long,” he said, adding how he feels more cautious while working on any aspect of a film.
While working on Ek Din, Aamir said both of them worked together on the script before Mansoor took charge of overseeing the shoot and ensuring things stayed on track on set. He recalled an instance during the film’s Japan schedule when Mansoor and director Sunil Pandey called him to rework a scene from what had been written. Aamir said he initially disagreed, but chose to trust their instinct — a decision that ultimately aligned with Aamir's vision.
Ek Din, starring Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi, is set to release on May 1.
