The newly elected A.M.M.A president, who debuted in films with Mammootty 34 years ago, expressed relief at his recovery
As Kerala cheers the news of Megastar Mammootty’s well-being, following a spell of ill health, the newly elected president of A.M.M.A or the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes, Shwetha Menon, too reacted to the news.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, she spoke about the joy and relief the news brought. She recalled how she began her career in cinema alongside the Malayalam screen icon in Anaswaram, all the way back in 1991, and stressed the importance of the date August 15 in her life.
Expressing her relief, she said, “I am so happy. How I wish (we found out about this news) it was on August 15. Because August 15, 1991, is when we did Anaswaram together, my debut film. And on August 15, 2025, I became the president of the Association Of Malayalam Movie Artistes. I would have been so happy to see him there personally on election day. We are all so relieved to hear this news. To him, all I have to say today is, 'Welcome, King!'"
Just last week, after winning a hard-fought election last week, Malayalam actor Shwetha Menon emerged as the winner, becoming the first female president of the A.M.M.A, beating actor Devan to win this post. She will be supported by fellow actress Kukku Parameswaran, who also became the first woman to win the post of General Secretary. Meanwhile, Ansiba Hassan has returned to her position in the Executive Committee. Other important positions in the leadership were handled by Jayan Cherthala and Lakshmi Priya, who were elected vice presidents, and Unni Shivpal, who was appointed treasurer.
Members of the A.M.M.A. had been vocal about a change of guard at the top to tackle the association’s decline following serious allegations that followed the Hema Committee report, which was tabled late last year.

Meanwhile, an update on Mammootty's health was revealed by producer Anto Joseph on Tuesday, which prompted several messages of relief and happiness from the Malayalam film fraternity.
Right after Joseph's post, superstar Mohanlal posted a picture of him kissing his senior on the cheeks, reiterating the sentiment. Manju Warrier posted on social media with a caption, “Welcome Back Tiger.” An update that is said to have brought a lot of cheer was one by actor Sreeraman, who had hinted that the megastar had cleared a major health test, even though he did not reveal specific details. In an interview later on, he confirmed that he had been speaking to Mammootty regularly during this period and that he was told earlier about the crucial nature of this particular test.
According to reports, the results of the crucial health test are said to have been shared with Mammootty’s family on Tuesday, and the results seem to have ruled out any serious concerns. The actor had taken a break from acting for around five months. He was working on Mahesh Narayanan’s Patriot, with Mohanlal, Kunchacko Boban, Fahadh Faasil and Nayanthara, when news about his ill health began spreading.
