The Hindi film industry is turning towards friends again. Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali and Mahaveer Jain have announced their new feature titled Side Heroes starring Abhishek Banerjee, Aparshakti Khurana and Varun Sharma.
Billed as a heartfelt ode to friendship, nostalgia, and rediscovering joy, Side Heroes is directed by Ssanjay Tripaathy and written by Siddarth Sen and Pankaj Matta.
According to the makers, the film tells the "poignant yet comical story" of three childhood friends who reconnect at a reunion after years of distance and rediscover the "true meaning of happiness, exploring themes of dreams, love, memories, and life." The film is backed by Imtiaz Ali, Mahaveer Jain, Mrighdeep Singh Lamba and Reeyan Shah.
Jain and Lamba shared in a joint statement that they "instantly related" to the script of Side Heroes. "We related to the tale of three friends looking back at their life during a reunion, told through the filter of humor and emotions. It’s just the kind of film that excites all of us. We are looking forward to this journey with the amazingly talented cast and crew."
Presented by Lyca Productions and Mahaveer Jain Films in association with Window Seat, the movie is expected to go on floors soon.
On the work front, Ali is gearing up to start filming his next big-screen romance. Billed as "a charming story of love and longing," the feature film will be headlined by Diljit Dosanjh. Set to release on Baisakhi 2026, the yet-untitled film, which will chronicle the story of a boy and a girl, "but also a country," also stars Naseeruddin Shah, Vedang Raina, and Sharvari.
Apart from this, Ali also serves as the creator, writer, and showrunner of the forthcoming Netflix series O Saathi Re. Touted as a "captivating exploration of contemporary human emotions," the romantic series features actors Aditi Rao Hydari, Avinash Tiwary and Arjun Rampal.
