'Son of Sardaar 2', 'Dhadak 2' Box-Office: Ajay Devgn's Sequel and Karan Johar-Backed Drama Remain Flat on Weekend

Ajay Devgn-led 'Son of Sardaar 2' and Karan Johar-backed 'Dhadak 2' faced competition from the box-office juggernaut 'Saiyaara'.

Son of Sardaar 2 and Dhadak 2 both recorded flat trends at the box-office, with the films tracking at low levels on their first weekend. According to trade numbers, Son of Sardaar 2the bigger film between the two, couldn't manage to hit double digits even on a Sunday.

Led by Ajay Devgn and also starring Mrunal Thakur, Ravi Kishan, and Deepak Dobriyal, Son of Sardaar 2 opened at ₹ 7.25 crore and recorded a 13 percent jump on Saturday with ₹ 8.25 crore. On Sunday, the comedy could manage to net ₹9.25 crore, reported industry tracker Sacnilk.

The three-day total of the film stands at ₹24.75 crore, which is a disappointing number for a franchise film. The film is a sequel to the hit 2012 comedy, which was also headlined by Devgn and clashed with Shah Rukh Khan's Jab Tak Hai Jaan. The film had hit the ₹100 crore mark in 2012 and emerged a superhit.

Son of Sardaar 2 clashed with Dhadak 2 this Friday. The Karan Johar-backed film, starring Siddhant Chaturvedi, Triptii Dimri, opened at ₹3.5 crore and had a Saturday of ₹3.75 crore, followed by ₹4.15 crore on Sunday, which was its biggest day with a 10 percent jump. The Shazia Iqbal directorial—a remake of Mari Selvaraj’s 2018 Tamil Pariyerum Perumal— recorded a weekend of ₹11.40 crore.

Both the new Hindi releases faced competition from the box-office juggernaut Saiyaara, which, on its third Sunday, netted ₹8 crore. Starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, the Mohit Suri musical-romance has crossed ₹300 crores at the Indian box office.

The film will have a stable run now as it has ten more days to add to its collections before the two big Independence Day releases take over: Rajinikanth's Coolie directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and Hrithik Roshan-JR NTR's War 2, helmed by Ayan Mukerji.
