Produced by Mammootty Kompany, the film stars Mammootty and Vinayakan in the lead roles
The official trailer of Mammootty's next film Kalamkaval, directed by debutant Jithin K Jose, is out ahead of the film's November 27 theatrical debut.
Produced by Mammootty Kompany, the film stars Mammootty and Vinayakan in the lead roles, with the hard-hitting suspense thriller raising anticipation ahead of its release. Kalamkaval also marks Mammootty’s return to the silver screen after an eight-month break.
Jithin K Jose, who is known for writing the story for Kurup, has written the script for the film along with Jishnu Sreekumar. The cast also includes Jibin Gopinath and Rajisha Vijayan.
In an interview with Club FM, Jithin said, “Kalamkaval is a story that gives equal space to two strong characters. When I narrated the story to Prithviraj, he suggested that one of the roles would be perfect for Mammootty. Interestingly, that was already on our minds as well.”
He also added that the character played by Vinayakan was originally written for Prithviraj.
“However, due to Prithviraj’s busy schedule with Empuraan and other films at that time, we had to look for other options. It was Mammootty who laterwho later recommended Vinayakan for the role,” Jithin said.
The distribution rights for Kerala are held by Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films, and the technical crew of Kalamkaval includes cinematographer Faisal Ali, editor Praveen Prabhakar, composer Mujeeb Majeed and production designer Shajie Naduvil.
Mammootty is currently shooting for the highly anticipated Patriot, directed by Mahesh Narayanan. The action drama co-stars Mohanlal, Nayanthara, Kunchacko Boban and Fahadh Faasil. Patriot is backed by Anto Joseph Productions and has music by composer Sushin Shyam. Patriot marks Mohanlal and Mammootty’s reunion in key roles after a gap of 17 years since Twenty:20 (2008).
Meanwhile, Cubes Entertainment will next be making a big-budget film starring Mammootty, said to be modelled around the fictionalised idea of an Indian Pablo Escobar. On the work front, he had two releases this year: filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon's mystery comedy thriller Dominic and the Ladies' Purse and the action thriller Bazooka. Recently, the actor also won his seventh Best Actor (Male) award at the Kerala State Film Awards for Bramayugam, the most for any actor in Malayalam.
