Mammootty’s Bramayugam, directed by Rahul Sadasivan, will be the only Indian film screened at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles on February 12, 2026, as part of its “Where the Forest Meets the Sea” folklore series.
Rahul Sadasivan’s Malayalam film Bramayugam, starring Mammootty, has earned a rare distinction as the sole Indian film to be screened at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles. The film, produced by Night Shift Studios and YNOT Studios, will be showcased on February 12, 2026, as part of the museum’s curated series titled “Where the Forest Meets the Sea: Folklore from Around the World.”
Mammootty announced the news on X, writing, “Excited to share that #Bramayugam will be screened as the only Indian film at the Academy Museum’s ‘Where the Forest Meets the Sea’ film series in Los Angeles on February 12, 2026 @AcademyMuseum. Another moment of pride for the entire team behind #Bramayugam ! (sic).”
The program, which runs from January through February, celebrates films from around the world that explore folklore and cultural mythologies. The inclusion of Bramayugam highlights Indian cinema’s growing recognition in global film circuits, particularly for its thematic depth and rooted storytelling.
Bramayugam, released in 2024, is a black-and-white period folk horror film featuring Mammootty, Arjun Ashokan, and Sidharth Bharathan. The movie grossed over ₹85 crore at the box office and also earned Mammootty the Best Actor honour at the 55th Kerala State Film Awards. Sadasivan was praised for his atmospheric storytelling and grounded portrayal of regional folklore.
The Los Angeles screening will close the museum’s folklore program on February 12, 2026, expected to further elevate interest in Indian storytelling traditions across global audiences.
On the work front, Mammootty had two releases this year: Filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon's mystery comedy thriller Dominic and the Ladies' Purse and the action thriller Bazooka. He will be next seen in Kalamkaval, co-starring Vinayakan. The film is set for a theatrical release later this month.
This will be followed by filmmaker Mahesh Narayanan's highly anticipated Patriot. The action drama co-stars Mohanlal, Nayanthara, Kunchacko Boban and Fahadh Faasil.
