The makers of the Nalan Kumarasamy film had released a poster in September without specifying the exact release date
Studio Green, makers of Nalan Kumarasamy’s Karthi-starrer Vaa Vaathiyar, have today announced December 5 as its official release date. Studio Green’s latest release was Suriya’s Kanguva, which received mixed reviews.
“The Swag Master locks the date! #VaaVaathiyaar storms into theatres on December 05, 2025 A #NalanKumarasamy Entertainer A @Music_Santhosh Musical.” Studio Green’s X post read.
Director-writer Nalan Kumarasamy's long-delayed Karthi-starrer Vaa Vaathiyar was announced as a December release late last month. The film’s team released a poster with this announcement news across social media handles although it did not confirm an exact date. The posters of the film revealed Karthi in the attire of a police officer and the songs from the film have gone on to become popular. The music is by Santosh Narayanan. The film’s first single ‘Uyir Pathikaama’ was released over six months ago.
Other stars of the film include Krithi Shetty, Sathyaraj, Rajkiran, Anand Raj, Shilpa Manjunath, Karunakaran and more.
Karthi’s most recent theatrical release as protagonist was last year’s Meiyazhagan. Nalan Kumarasamy though, last had a theatrical release all the way back in 2016 with the Vijay Sethupathi-Madonna Sebastian rom-com Kadhalum Kadandhu Pogum. He also directed one segment in the anthology Kutty Story.
Meanwhile, Karthi’s next release is expected to be Sardar 2. He has also begun shooting for Marshal. Although Kaithi 2 was expected to be the film Lokesh Kanagaraj started working on right after Coolie, recent reports have suggested that he might not be returning to the LCU franchise soon.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Lokesh Kanagaraj had spoken about plans for his future films after Coolie. “So there is Kaithi 2 with Karthi and Vikram 2 with Kamal sir, both of which I have committed to. I really want to make Master 2 and Leo 2 with Vijay anna as well, but I don’t know about his availability and if he’ll come back to films or not (after he enters politics). I also have the Rolex film with Suriya, which we have discussed a lot. All these projects are in the pipeline, but will depend on the actors’ shooting schedules and mine,” Lokesh had said.
