'Main Vaapas Aaunga' Trailer: Imtiaz Ali Explores Love and Longing in Romance-Drama

The makers of Main Vaapas Aaunga, directed by Imtiaz Ali and starring Diljit Dosanjh, Naseeruddin Shah, Vedang Raina and Sharvari, unveiled the film’s trailer on Tuesday.

The upcoming theatrical release, which has already generated buzz with its teaser and music, offers a glimpse into a story rooted in love, longing and human connection.

Known for portraying romance through layered emotions and personal journeys, Imtiaz Ali appears to revisit familiar themes in Main Vaapas Aaunga, while placing them against the backdrop of memory and history. The trailer suggests a contemporary narrative with emotional undertones, blending themes of belonging and relationships across generations.

The film also brings back the acclaimed creative trio of A.R. Rahman, Irshad Kamil and Imtiaz Ali, whose collaborations over the years have produced several memorable songs in Indian cinema.

Speaking about the film and the trailer, Imtiaz Ali said, “What have we left behind? What is the love that we carried in our hearts when we crossed the river of time? Main Vaapas Aaunga is a personal story of love and longing which remained in someone's heart for 78 years after the partition of the country. It is also an echo of hundreds of stories that I heard from the veteran generation that has seen partition with their own eyes.”

He further added, “The film looks back from a contemporary point of view at the heart beats of a dynamic generation. I feel privileged and grateful to get the chance to work on this story and make this film."

Sunil Chainani, Business Head, Movies, Applause Entertainment, said the positive response to the film’s teaser and music had encouraged the team ahead of the trailer launch.

Produced by Birla Studios and Applause Entertainment alongside Mohit Choudhary and Shibasish Sarkar of Window Seat Films, Main Vaapas Aaunga is scheduled to release in cinemas on June 12, 2026.
