'Param Sundari': Videos Of Malayali Influencers Reacting To Trailer Removed From Instagram

Several videos and reels made by Malayali influencers were allegedly being removed from Instagram for the comical manner in which they reacted to the Hindi film Param Sundari's polarising trailer. Some influencers, such as Pavithra Menon, wondered why the film did not think of casting a Malayali actress for the role, stating that women in Kerala do not “walk around wearing jasmine flowers and dancing Mohiniyattam.”
The trailer of Param Sundari, a cross-cultural romantic musical starring Janhvi Kapoor and Sidharth Malhotra, was released last Tuesday. Directed by Tushar Jalota and co-written by Jalota, Gaurav Mishra and Aarsh Vora, the film tracks the love story of a North Indian boy, Param, and a Malayali girl, Sundari, and how their contrasting worlds collide.
Menon posted the notice she received from Instagram for removing her video by the rights owner: Maddock Films. The notice read, “We removed the following content you posted on Instagram because we received a notice from a third party that it infringes their copyright: Video: 'Main Thekkapatil damodaran sundaram Pillai kerala se d I mean no hate to Jhanvi here but why try this hard?' uploaded on esping 14, 2025 04:23 AM PDT The removal decision was made by our technology. If you believe this content should not have been removed from Instagram, you can contact the complaining party directly to resolve your issue.”
Following the notice, Menon chose to re-uploaded the video and it has been going viral. Another creator named Vedangi.X also spoke up about being given copyright strikes for posting videos about the film. In a reply video, she says, “Instead of doing proper research, you decided to capitalise off Kerala culture….we are allowed to express our criticism.”
One of the highlights of the trailer was a short monologue delivered by Kapoor's character near the end of the clip. In it, Kapoor's Sundari is seen schooling two witless North Indians about various Southern movie stars, from Superstar Rajinikanth to Allu Arjun, and the respective states they hail from.
