There is a new universe in Bollywood: The husbands cinematic universe. The makers of Pati Patni Aur Woh Do dropped their debut teaser on Monday, locking May 15 as the theatrical release date for the comedy drama.
The film, billed as a “Pativerse” (husband universe), is headlined by Ayushmann Khurrana and also features Sara Ali Khan, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Rakul Preet Singh.
The film is directed by Mudassar Aziz and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Renu Ravi Chopra, and Krishan Kumar and creatively produced by Juno Chopra.
The teaser of the film revisits the classic drama of the ‘pati-patni-aur-woh’ dynamic, begining with the 1978 BR Chopra classic of the same name, starring Sanjeev Kumar, Vidya Sinha and Ranjeeta Kaur. The teaser then moves on to give a glimpse of its 2019 remake, led by actors Kartik Aaryan, Bhumi Pednekar, and Ananya Panday.
Unlike the previous two outings, Pati Patni Aur Woh Do features Khurrana as a hilariously flustered Prajapati Pandey, "whose life quickly unravels when he finds himself caught between three women."
"As the confusion snowballs into an all-out comedy of errors, Vijay Raaz enters as a cop, dialling up the chaos even further," read a note from the makers.
Khurrana was last seen in the horror comedy Thamma, which released last Diwali. The film also starred Rashmika Mandanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
The actor also has Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment-backed spy comedy Udta Teer. The film, set for a September 11 release, will reunite Khurrana with Khan after Pati Patni Aur Woh Do. Apart from this, he also has a Sooraj Barjatya directorial up for release.
Gabbi, meanwhile, is currently seen in filmmaker Priyadarshan's Bhooth Bangla. The horror comedy is headlined by Akshay Kumar and also stars Tabu and Paresh Rawal. Bhooth Bangla marks the much-awaited reunion of Kumar and Priyadarshan after hit comedies like Hera Pheri, Bhagam Bhag, Garam Masala, Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Khatta Meetha, which marked their last collaboration in 2010.
