Actor Manoj Bajpayee and filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma have started shooting for their upcoming horror comedy, Police Station Mein Bhoot. The film marks the long-awaited reunion of the actor-director pair, known for their iconic collaborations on Satya (1998), Kaun (1999) and Shool (1999), not to forget the uproarious Daud (1997).

Police Station Mein Bhoot revolves around a supernatural incident inside, well, a police station. Bajpayee, who essays a cop in the film, is joined in the cast by Genelia D'Souza.

Varma, who has directed straight-ahead horror films in the past, including the landmark Bhoot, shared a first-look poster for his new film, featuring Bajpayee and a creepy doll head. "Back with Manoj Bajpayee after Satya... this time for a horror comedy: Police Station Mein Bhoot. Shoot begins now," he wrote.

The film's commencement has stirred excitement among fans of Varma and Bajpayee. The duo goes back nearly three decades, when Varma cast Bajpayee in a supporting role in the comedy Daud. Later, Bajpayee got his cinematic break as the charismatic gangster Bikhu Mahtre in Varma's Satya.

Bajpayee also plays a cop in the upcoming comedy caper Inspector Zende. Co-starring Jim Sarbh, the film is inspired by the real-life story of Madhukar Zende, a former ACP of the Mumbai Police who apprehended serial killer Charles Shobraj at a Goa restaurant in 1986. Set to stream on Netflix from September 5, the film is directed by Chinmay Mandlekar.

Besides this, Bajpayee will be seen in Thithi director Raam Reddy's sophomore film, Jugnuma (The Fable), set for a big screen release on September 12.

Varma's last Hindi directorial was the 2022 martial arts film Ladki: Dragon Girl. The filmmaker had earlier announced an ambitious crime film, Syndicate, exploring "a terrifying organisation which threatens the very existence of India". The new film comes after Varma had spoken on social media about losing focus in his career after the blinding success of Satya and Rangeela.
