Filmmaker Mohit Suri is on the verge of scripting history with his latest Saiyaara. Led by debutant Ahaan Panday and actor Aneet Padda and aided by a chartbuster soundtrack, the romantic-drama is on course to record one of the biggest opening days of Hindi films this year, challenging movies headlined by superstars like Aamir Khan, Ajay Devgn, and Akshay Kumar. It is also aiming to beat previous box office records set by films of the same genre, led by bigger stars.

With ticket sales above 90,000 by Wednesday night, Yash Raj Films-backed Saiyaara is expected to comfortably find a spot in the top three advance booking sales of 2025, cruising past numbers set by Kumar's Housefull 5 and Devgn's Raid 2.

According to a report in Pinkvilla, the top spot is currently held by Vicky Kaushal's Chhaava with over 2 lakh tickets sold in national chains before the release, followed by Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning and Salman Khan's Sikandar, which had sold over 1,43,000 tickets for a release on Sunday.

Saiyaara is aiming to net around ₹15 crore, and it could even clock ₹20 crore depending on how the final showcasing of the film pans out. Even if it manages to cross the ₹15 crore mark, Saiyaara will set a benchmark for the highest day-one collection for a romantic film post-pandemic, a record currently held by Ranbir Kapoor-Shraddha Kapoor starrer Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar. The Luv Ranjan directorial had earned ₹15.73 crore in 2023.

If Saiyaara pulls off the impossible and breaches the ₹20 crore mark on its opening day, it will surpass the record set by the 2013 beloved romantic-drama Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, which had debuted with a staggering ₹19 crore—the highest day one number for the genre.

But, with a ₹15 crore Friday certain by now, the film will comfortably be ahead of Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par, which had netted around ₹10 crore in June. It would also then hold the record of the biggest opening for a film starring newcomers, which was previously held by Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter's Dhadak, which netted ₹8 crore in 2018.

The makers have also rolled out a discount offer on tickets for Friday, which the trade has observed that the film didn't need anyway, given the pre-sales momentum. However, it is not going to take away from the legitimacy of the bumper opening as the makers have capped the offer at ₹1.50 crore gross, "which means that any purchases after the exhaustion of the aforementioned amount allotted for discount will be at full price," stated the report.

Produced by YRF’s CEO Akshaye Widhani, Saiyaara will hit cinemas worldwide on July 18.
