Aamir Khan's 'Sitaare Zameen Par' has officially been cleared by the CBFC, but the film's certification details haven't been disclosed yet.
Superstar Aamir Khan's upcoming comedy drama Sitaare Zameen Par has crossed the final hurdle: the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). After suggesting two cuts in the film, which Khan had reportedly initially refused, the CBFC has now cleared the film, which is on track for a theatrical release on June 20.
The makers of the film, which is a spiritual sequel to the beloved 2007 drama Taare Zameen Par, have reportedly accepted the two cuts suggested by the board. However, there are no details regarding the certificate issued by the CBFC.
There were reports that Khan, who is also the producer of the film, was scheduled to meet the CBFC officials to sort out the issue.
The film is now set for a wide-scale release on Friday, with the makers looking to release the film in as many as 3500 screens across India. Though the Hindi market for the film is clear, it will face competition in the Telugu market with Nagarjuna and Dhanush's Kuberaa.
Also starring Genelia Deshmukh, Sitaare Zameen Par is a remake of the 2018 Spanish film Champions. The film features Khan as a suspended basketball coach who must serve community service by helping a team of players with disabilities prepare for a tournament.
Backed by Aamir Khan Productions, the film features 10 debutants, including Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar.
Sitaare Zameen Par is directed by RS Prasanna, who previously helmed the 2017 hit Shubh Mangal Saavdhan. Divy Nidhi Sharma has penned the screenplay, while Amitabh Bhattacharya is credited with lyrics. The film's music has been composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.
Sitaare Zameen Par is the second release for Khan post-pandemic after his 2022 drama Laal Singh Chadha. The superstar would hope to score big with his latest, as his last hit was Dangal in 2015. His 2018 action-adventure drama Thugs of Hindostan had also bombed at the box office.
