The 'Dahaad' and 'Heeramandi' star gears up for her first Telugu film, co-starring Sudheer Babu.
Actor Sonakshi Sinha has completed filming Jatadhara, her first Telugu-language feature, marking a significant step in her career as she ventures into South Indian cinema.
Directed by Venkat Kalyan, the film also stars Sudheer Babu and features Sinha in what is being described as a commanding new role. The project had generated considerable anticipation since the release of its first-look poster on Women’s Day earlier this year, which drew attention for Sinha’s striking transformation and the announcement of her Telugu debut.
“Aaaaand one more down!!” Sinha wrote on Instagram, announcing the wrap. “My first Telugu film... and my team has killed it on this one!!! Bohot mazza aaya, bohot dhamaal kiya (we had a lot of fun)... can't wait for you all to see!”
The move to Telugu cinema comes at a transitional moment for Sinha. While she has garnered renewed acclaim for her work in streaming, notably in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2024 Netflix series Heeramandi and the Amazon Prime thriller Dahaad (2023), her recent theatrical outings have met with less success. Her last Hindi film, Double XL (2022), co-starring Huma Qureshi, was a critical and commercial disappointment.
Sinha, who made her Bollywood debut in 2010 with Dabangg, has since oscillated between mainstream commercial fare and more experimental projects. With Jatadhara, she appears to be recalibrating once again, aligning herself with the growing trend of cross-industry collaborations within Indian cinema.
No release date for Jatadhara has been announced.
