The historic reunion of Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam has resulted in an underwhelming box-office performance. Thug Life, the duo's latest gangster drama, had a four-day extended weekend but couldn't capitalise on it due to mixed audience receptions.

Thug Life, which was supposed to be the biggest title from Tamil this month, had a decent start of over ₹15 crore, including Hindi and Telugu versions.

The film then had a fall of over 50% from Friday, where it netted ₹7 crore, followed by a similar Saturday, which didn't record any jump despite the Eid holiday. According to Sacnilk, Thug Life then raked in ₹6.50 crore on Sunday, recording its lowest collections despite the holiday.

As of now, the domestic total of the film stands at a little over ₹37 crore, the industry tracker reported. Thug Life is witnessing a huge drop on Monday, and the collections are expected to plummet even further, in the range of ₹3 to 4 crore.

Thug Life has recorded poor trending at the box office as compared to Haasan's 2022 actioner Vikram, which had minted an estimated ₹94.65 crore in three days.

The movie reunites Haasan with Ratnam over 38 years after their iconic Mumbai gangster drama Nayakan (1987). Thug Life co-stars Silambarasan TR, Trisha, Nasser, Ashok Selvan, Joju George, and Aishwarya Lekshmi, among others.

The collections of the film could have also been impacted by a ban in Karnataka, following Haasan's refusal to apologise for his language remark.

On Monday, the Supreme Court of India declined an urgent hearing on the Thug Life screening ban. Karnataka Theatres Association had filed a petition, alleging that there were threats from certain groups intimidating exhibitors who wanted to screen the film. The Supreme Court, however, directed the group to approach the Karnataka High Court for relief.
