Amitabh Bachchan, whose career has spanned over five decades, has added another distinction to his legacy. At 82, the actor has become India’s highest tax-paying celebrity for the financial year 2024-25, surpassing some of the biggest names in the film industry.
According to reports, Bachchan earned ₹350 crore during the fiscal year, with a tax liability of ₹120 crore— a substantial increase from the ₹71 crore he paid last year. His latest advance tax instalment, amounting to ₹52.50 crore, was paid on March 15, 2025.
The actor’s earnings stem from a variety of sources, including film projects, lucrative brand endorsements, and his long-standing role as the host of the popular television game show Kaun Banega Crorepati.

His reported net worth is estimated at ₹3,150 crore.
Last year, it was Shah Rukh Khan who held the top spot paying ₹92 crore in taxes. This year, Bachchan has outpaced several top-earning stars, including Prabhas, Shah Rukh Khan, Allu Arjun, Aamir Khan, and Akshay Kumar. Other high-profile celebrities on the list include Tamil superstar Vijay, who paid ₹80 crore in taxes, and Salman Khan, who paid ₹75 crore.
Bachchan, whose career has endured through decades of shifting trends in Bollywood, remains one of the most recognisable and revered figures in Indian entertainment. His recent films include Kalki 2898 AD in which he shared the screen with Prabhas, Deepika Padukone and Kamal Haasan, and Vettaiyan with Rajinikanth.
“From doing some of the biggest feature films of Indian cinema to being the top pick for most of the brands – Amitabh Bachchan is an actor in demand even at the age of 82. He is also the most loved host on television with Kaun Banega Crorepati. The income from all these sources amounts to ₹350 crore, which is among the highest in the capacity of an individual in the film fraternity,” a source told Pinkvilla, which first reported the news.
