Japanese anime film Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle has scripted history at the Indian box office. Directed by Haruo Sotozaki, the film is based on the Infinity Castle arc of the 2016–20 manga series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba by Koyoharu Gotouge.

Industry tracker Sacnilk reported that the film netted ₹13 crore on day one, higher than the opening day of all Indian titles released this Friday, including the Telugu fantasy action-adventure Mirai, headlined by Teja Sajja, which minted around ₹12 crore.

The opening day collection of Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle was also higher than that of Hindi movies like Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par, Tiger Shroff-led Baaghi 4, Ajay Devgn starrer Son of Sardaar 2, Param Sundari, and Hollywood biggies like Superman, Jurassic World: Rebirth, and F1.

Pinkvilla reported that Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle crossed the lifetime earnings of all the previous Japanese anime films in India, including Jujutsu Kaisen 0, Suzume, Demon Slayer: To The Hashira Training, and Shinchan: Our Dinosaur Story.

The publication reported that the film has been distributed by Sony Pictures Entertainment, which released the anime in 1700 screens. Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle is expected to mint around ₹40 crore over the weekend.

The film opened across pan-India in five languages, including Japanese, English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, and is expected to have a solid weekend at the box office, setting itself up comfortably for a fantastic lifetime total. While Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle is likely to lead the race this week, it will face huge competition starting next Friday, as the new release Jolly LLB 3, starring Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi, hits the screens.

The film is directed by Subhash Kapoor, who also helmed the first instalment of Jolly LLB in 2013, followed by its sequel in 2017. The movie features a face-off between Kumar and Warsi (who had starred in the first instalment) as lawyers, with Saurabh Shukla returning to play the judge.
