In the film, Saif Ali Khan reportedly plays the role of India's first Election Chief Commissioner, Sukumar Sen.
Bruised, but back on track: Actor Saif Ali Khan has begun filming his new film, his first since he was stabbed at his Bandra home earlier this year. Khan has joined the sets of filmmaker Rahul Dholakia, who is mounting a historical political drama.
Khan, who plays the role of India's first Election Chief Commissioner, Sukumar Sen, filmed his sequence with an ensemble cast, including actor Pratik Gandhi, in Mumbai.
"The cast and crew are currently filming the Mumbai schedule and are almost halfway through it. It's a historical political drama on one of the most important chapters of India's political history. It is a film with a stellar ensemble of actors," a source close to the production told The Hollywood Reporter India.
According to sources, Khan was supposed to begin the film in January, just days before he was stabbed, following which he spent five days at the hospital and underwent an intense six-hour surgery; the actor was discharged on January 21.
The crew then rescheduled the timeline and wrapped up the outdoor schedule of the film, and has now begun filming the Mumbai schedule.
Khan is currently awaiting the release of his Netflix film Jewel Thief, produced by Siddharth Anand. The heist thriller also stars Jaideep Ahlawat, Kunal Kapoor, and Nikita Dutta. Directed by Kookie Gulati and Robby Grewal, Jewel Thief will release on April 25.
