The veteran actor is finally back on sets after returning from a health-related sabbatical
Clips of Malayalam veteran Mammootty leaving for London to rejoin the shoot of Patriot have been going viral. In a cheerful send off, Dulquer Salmaan can be seen dropping the Megastar at Chennai airport and embracing him before he left. The star had joined the same film’s sets on the first week of October— his first after a five-month break from acting in movies. He completed this leg on October 8. The London schedule is expected to begin on October 15.
The teaser of the film was released last week. The film promises to be an intense, politically-charged thriller, and a treat for fans of the superstars. Apart from stalwarts Mammootty and Mohanlal, the film’s cast also includes Fahadh Faasil, Nayanthara, Revathy and Kunchacko Boban. Patriot is backed by Anto Joseph Productions and has music by composer Sushin Shyam.
In an earlier interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Mahesh Narayanan had revealed details about the film, saying, "It is not based on any real-life incident, but I cannot reveal more about the film’s themes at this point. However, it is great to have Fahadh and Chackochan amongst the cast; they are my friends who always want me to do better and push me constantly. Having said that, it's not like I am utilising them just for cameos, they have solid characters with lots of material to perform. The same goes for Lal sir (Mohanlal); he is going to appear in a proper, full-fledged role. Now my challenge is to present all these actors on-screen together in the best possible manner.”
Patriot marks Mohanlal and Mammootty’s reunion in key roles after a gap of 17 years. They were last seen together in Twenty:20 (2008). Earlier in July, Mahesh Narayanan was also confirmed to be directing the biopic of Narain Karthikeyan, India's first Formula One driver. He last directed the acclaimed 2022 film Ariyippu, starring Kunchacko Boban and Divya Prabha.
