In a surprise announcement, Mohanlal has been confirmed to play a part in Prithviraj’s mega budget action film Khalifa. Some reports have even gone to claim that Mohanlal will be playing Prithviraj’s grandfather in the Vyskakh-directed film.

In Bro Daddy, Mohanlal and Prithviraj had played the roles of father and son. That film was directed by Prithviraj.

Mohanlal is set to portray the character of Mambarakkal Ahmed Ali in the upcoming action thriller. The film is also expected to be split into two parts, promising a violent narrative exploring the Mambarakkal family's underworld dominance in the Middle East (West Asia).

A glimpse of Khalifa was released on Prithviraj's birthday, offering fans their first look at what appears to be one of his most ambitious roles yet. The short promo, titled The Bloodline, reveals an elaborate fight sequence set in London — a three-months-in-the-making montage that hints at the film’s large-scale vision. Directed by Vysakh, Khalifa introduces Prithviraj as Aamir Ali, described in the teaser as “invincible.” The clip is steeped in moody lighting and stylised choreography, drawing comparisons with contemporary action blockbusters that foreground precision and spectacle. Its title The Bloodline gestures towards themes of vengeance, inheritance, and legacy — motifs that recur in Prithviraj’s recent filmography.

Prithviraj Sukumaran also recently debuted his unsettling first-look as the antagonist 'Kumbha' in SS Rajamouli's next, tentatively titled Globe Trotter. The film, starring Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, is in its final stages, and will mark Rajamouli's followup to the epic success of RRR.

It was also recently confirmed that Mohanlal will reprise his role in Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 as well. Mohanlal is expected join the film’s sets in Goa after December 20, in what is reportedly a short three-day stint. He played the role of Rajinikanth’s friend, a gangster named Mathew, in the film’s first part. Actor Vinayakan, who played the dreaded bad guy Varman in the first film, said during a recent press event that he would feature in Jailer 2 (in what perhaps might be a flashback portion).
