From Jennifer Lopez’s debut India performance to Ranveer Singh pulling Donald Trump Jr onto the dance floor, the Mantena–Gadiraju wedding turned Udaipur into a magnet for celebrities, billionaires and international performers.
Udaipur has become the centre of a rolling celebrity cavalcade as the wedding celebrations of heiress Netra Mantena and tech entrepreneur Vamsi Gadiraju unfold across the city. The three-day affair, hosted by US-based billionaires Padmaja and Rama Raju Mantena, has drawn an unusually concentrated mix of Bollywood stars, global performers and high-profile international guests making this destination wedding into an all-out cultural spectacle.
The weekend’s biggest talking point was Jennifer Lopez, who delivered her first-ever performance in India on Sunday night. Her set, complete with rapid-fire costume changes and polished choreography, served as the unofficial climax of the festivities. But Lopez was only one among a pack of global entertainers flown in for the celebrations, which also featured appearances by Justin Bieber, Tiësto, Black Coffee, Cirque du Soleil and DJ Aman Nagpal.
Bollywood, as ever, arrived ready to perform. Ranveer Singh led the charge with a high-energy act that reportedly coaxed Donald Trump Jr — in town for the wedding and earlier spotted in Agra — onto the dance floor. Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon delivered crowd-pleasing routines to their biggest hits, while Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nora Fatehi and Madhuri Dixit Nene added to the roster of star turns. Karan Johar, in typically self-aware fashion, hosted a customised version of Koffee With Karan for the couple.
The guest list has been equally eclectic. Business leaders, Hollywood names, political figures and international VIPs have been checking into Udaipur’s luxury hotels since the pre-wedding events began on 21 November. The sheer volume of arrivals — and the global scope of the performers — has pushed the festivities into the realm of cultural event rather than private celebration.
At the centre of it, of course, is the Mantena family. Rama Raju Mantena, the Orlando-based CEO of Ingenus Pharmaceuticals, oversees a portfolio that includes multinational healthcare ventures with facilities in the US, Switzerland and India. His daughter Netra’s wedding has drawn significant attention not just for its scale, but for what it signals about the growing convergence of global wealth, celebrity culture and Indian destination weddings.
The "Udaipur Wedding" has become one of the most extravagant — and most talked-about — weddings India has seen this year.
